Skills catalog in Copilot Studio

Makers can discover, reuse and selectively share approved organizational skills from a shared catalog powered by the Microsoft 365 App Store, instead of recreating the same instructions and workflows in every agent. Shared skills extend across Copilot Studio, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Cowork; preview Sep 2026, GA Oct 2026, Web, Worldwide (Standard Multi-Tenant) (roadmap 571880).

Why it matters: Standardizing agent instructions in one governed catalog cuts the per-agent rebuild work on every customer engagement.

Self-learning for Copilot Studio agents

Agents identify repeated tool sequences from completed runs and recommend turning them into workflows, with supporting evidence, expected impact and the related instruction and tool changes; makers accept, configure, test and publish a refined copy. Preview Sep 2026, GA Oct 2026 (roadmap 570432).

Why it matters: It converts observed agent behavior into deterministic workflow steps, which is the main lever for cutting agent run costs.

Persistent identity for Copilot Studio agents

Makers can give a Copilot Studio agent its own governed Microsoft 365 identity with a mailbox, Teams presence and Office access, so it participates in shared business processes as a first-class entity that admins govern for access, policies and use. Preview Sep 2026, GA Nov 2026 (roadmap 570430).

Why it matters: An agent with its own account changes licensing, mailbox and Conditional Access design, so tenant plans need revisiting before the Nov GA.

Teams Phone Agent is generally available

Teams Phone Agent is now generally available to all customers, leaving the Frontier public preview it entered on Jun 15 2026. It extends Auto Attendant and Call Queue with an AI voice agent and supports attaching Copilot Studio custom voice agents published to the Teams Phone channel.

Why it matters: Voice agent work for Teams customers can move from Frontier pilots to production deals, though the Copilot Studio integration is still a gated preview.

Sales in Microsoft 365 Copilot links meetings to CRM records automatically

Upcoming customer meetings are matched by AI to the most relevant CRM record - an open opportunity when confidence is sufficient, otherwise an account - and that record feeds opportunity and account insights during meeting preparation. Meetings stay soft-linked until the user confirms, and users can review, accept, change or remove the suggested match. Automatically enabled for users who use meeting preparation and have access to Dynamics 365 or another connected CRM, Worldwide (MC1482188).

Why it matters: It turns on by default for anyone with CRM access, so sellers see AI-suggested record matches without any admin step.

Automatic Recording for Teams Phone Agent moves to Teams admin center

Automatic Recording for Teams Phone Agent can now be configured in the Teams admin center; it was PowerShell-only since Aug 17 2026.

Why it matters: Recording policy for voice agents becomes an admin-portal setting, so it no longer needs a scripted rollout.

Configurable Teams Phone Agent call length with a disconnect message

Maximum call length with a configurable disconnect message can now be set in the Teams admin center, adding the disconnect message to the call-length cap that arrived in August.

Why it matters: It caps runaway agent calls and controls what the caller hears when the cap is hit.

Teams Phone Agent refreshes Questions and Answers URLs daily

URLs used as grounding for the Questions and Answers tool are now refreshed daily.

Why it matters: Public web content behind a phone agent's answers stays current without a manual reindex.

Intelligent call delegation in Microsoft Teams

AI-powered calling assistance answers incoming Teams calls, gathers context and helps the user decide whether to pick up, and can schedule follow-up appointments through an integration with Microsoft Bookings. Preview Oct 2026, GA Nov 2026 (roadmap 565216).

Why it matters: An AI answering calls on a user's behalf raises recording, consent and transcript-retention questions that Swiss and EU customers will ask first.

🟒 Just shippedGA 2026-09-30

GPT 6 Astra in the Cowork model selector

GPT 6 Astra is now available in the Cowork model selector as the latest model for tough problems.

Why it matters: Another frontier model in the selector means another line in the usage-based billing forecast and another model to allow or block per group.

Dynamics 365 Sales tools, skills and plugin in Copilot Cowork

The updated Sales plugin brings expanded Dynamics 365 Sales context, actions and guided workflows to Cowork, building on the native Sales skills already there. Native Sales skills invoke tools published through the Dynamics 365 MCP server, and ship inside the Sales plugin delivered through the updated MOS package for the Sales app. GA Sep 2026 (roadmap 573373).

Why it matters: Sellers act on CRM data inside Cowork, and admins get a packaged, governed way to deploy it rather than per-tenant connector work.

Dynamics 365 Customer Service tools reach Chat, Cowork, Code and Scout

The updated Service application brings Dynamics 365 Customer Service context, actions and guided workflows into the supported Copilot experiences. First-party tools delivered through the Service package on Dynamics 365 MCP respect Dynamics 365 business logic and the user's existing permissions on each call; availability is tracked separately per experience. GA Sep 2026 (roadmap 571678).

Why it matters: Permission enforcement happens on each MCP call, so service agents inherit the user's CRM scope instead of a shared service account's.

App skill builds apps from a description in Cowork

Create lightweight, interactive apps from a description without writing code, refine the app in chat, then open, publish and share it inside the organization.

Dynamics 365 Customer Service tools, skills and plugins for Scout

The updated Service application brings Dynamics 365 Customer Service context, actions and guided workflows into Scout, so service teams work with service information and take supported actions without switching to Dynamics 365. First-party tools delivered through the Service package on Dynamics 365 MCP respect Dynamics 365 business logic and the user's existing permissions on each call. GA Sep 2026 (roadmap 573382).

Why it matters: Scout gains a governed first-party CRM tool set, which is the pattern partners should copy for their own MCP packages.

Dynamics 365 Customer Service tools, skills and plugins for Code

The same Service package lands in Copilot Code, giving the solution-building surface Dynamics 365 Customer Service context, actions and guided workflows under the same permission checks on each MCP call. GA Sep 2026 (roadmap 573381).

Why it matters: Code can now assemble service solutions against live CRM data, so the Frontier rollout reaches app building and not just chat.

🟒 Just shippedGA 2026-09-30

Plugin registry for Microsoft Copilot

Developers and partners package related skills, connectors and the metadata and configuration needed to reach MCP servers and other enabled tools into one plugin, then publish and update that package once instead of maintaining separate deployment artifacts per Copilot experience. Admins adjust assignments, review new versions, see where a plugin is in use, and decide when to expand, limit or retire it. More than 100 plugins are already available. Basic registry and management capabilities are included with qualifying Microsoft cloud subscriptions; some connectors are still rolling out.

Why it matters: One package and one review per plugin replaces per-experience deployment, which materially shortens the path for a partner solution to reach a tenant.

Copilot UX components reach general availability in October

Copilot UX components, the rich interactive experiences rendered directly in Microsoft 365 Copilot, are on track for general availability in October 2026 for all customers worldwide, together with SharePoint Framework 1.24. They now carry their final name, are live in every tenant and ship with ready-made samples; version 1.24 Beta 5 shipped in September with a preview update and fixes from the previous beta.

Why it matters: Web parts and portal pages can be rebuilt as agent-reachable components on a GA-supported surface within the month.

Business Central MCP server runs custom data queries

New MCP tools let an application define, validate and run custom data queries against Business Central data for which no existing API exists. GA Oct 2026 (roadmap 573312).

Why it matters: Agents can read Business Central data without waiting for a bespoke API, which removes the usual blocker on BC agent scenarios.

AL MCP server activity can be written to a log file

AL MCP server diagnostics can be written to a configurable file at a selectable detail level, or file logging turned off when not needed. GA Oct 2026 (roadmap 573349).

Why it matters: Intermittent agent failures against Business Central become diagnosable after the fact instead of only while reproducing them.

AL MCP workspaces can be configured at runtime

The AL MCP server can start without a predefined project, accept AL projects at runtime and use configured connection details in headless scenarios without authentication prompts. GA Oct 2026 (roadmap 573348).

Why it matters: One reusable MCP server can serve several agent sessions and CI jobs, instead of one process per preconfigured workspace.

πŸ“Š Work IQ

🟑 Coming soonPlanned Oct 2026

Work IQ invokes custom agents and third-party tool calls

Work IQ will be able to invoke custom agents and agents that call supported third-party tools. Preview Oct 2026, release Nov 2026, Web, Worldwide (Standard Multi-Tenant) (roadmap 570853).

Why it matters: Work IQ stops being read-only grounding and starts calling customer-built agents, which puts third-party tool calls inside the Work IQ trust boundary.

ExpandedContextIQ widens what users can attach to a prompt

Context IQ expands so users can discover and select additional agents, skills and content sources while composing a prompt. Preview Oct 2026, release Nov 2026, Web, Worldwide (Standard Multi-Tenant) (roadmap 570854).

Why it matters: More selectable sources at prompt time means the grounding surface users can reach needs reviewing against existing DLP scope.

Tools management extends to plugins, skills and connectors

Tools management in Agent 365 is now generally available and reaches beyond MCP servers to plugins, skills and connectors. From one pane admins discover connected tools, review key metadata and usage, and apply tenant-wide allow or block controls across all four types. Power Platform connectors governance is still in progress.

Why it matters: One allow/block surface for every tool type replaces chasing plugin and connector governance through separate admin centers.

Cost management covers Code and Copilot Managed Runtime

Cost management in Agent 365 expands beyond Copilot Cowork and Work IQ and now supports Code and Copilot Managed Runtime. Support for agents built with Microsoft Copilot Studio is planned for October, with more AI workloads to follow.

Why it matters: Usage-based spend for the new Copilot surfaces lands in one place, and Copilot Studio agents join it next month.

Consumption Dashboard ties Cowork usage to outcomes

The Consumption Dashboard in Insights shows trends across active users, credits and tasks, organizes work by task category, and estimates Cowork-assisted value in time and dollars.

Agent Management Rules automate agent governance

In public preview, admins create rules in the Microsoft 365 admin center that automatically block agents, reject publication requests or apply policy templates when conditions are met. Criteria include ownership status, agent tags, Microsoft Entra Agent ID, publisher, risk signals and usage activity.

Why it matters: Governance scales with agent count instead of per-agent admin review, and unowned or untagged agents can be blocked on arrival.

Custom MCP servers get an admin approval path

In public preview in September 2026, developers register custom MCP servers through the Agent 365 CLI and submit them for administrator review before agents may invoke them. In the Microsoft 365 admin center the admin inspects the server description, publisher, requestor, endpoint and capabilities, then approves or rejects.

Why it matters: Custom MCP servers get a documented submission route, so partner tooling can ship into a tenant without a standing exception.

Agent 365 integrates with Azure API Management

Beginning September 30 the Agent 365 and Azure API Management integration starts rolling out. AI assets onboarded to API Management - agents, tools, models and MCP servers - are automatically discovered in Agent 365, while API Management applies authentication, routing and runtime controls to AI traffic.

Why it matters: Inventory stops depending on manual onboarding, and runtime enforcement sits in front of the agent rather than only in policy.

Spending policies assign models and effort levels per group

When configuring a spending policy in cost management, admins can give different groups access to specific models and effort levels. The policies also shape which models Auto can select in Cowork. Rolling out for Cowork, with additional workloads planned.

Why it matters: Advanced models can be reserved for the groups that justify them without blocking everyone else's Cowork access.

Model router expands to 32 Azure regions

Model router is now available in 32 Azure regions, adding Canada Central, North Europe, Norway East and UAE North. North Europe and Norway East support both Global Standard and Data Zone Standard deployments; Canada Central and UAE North support Global Standard deployments only.

Why it matters: North Europe and Norway East gaining Data Zone Standard is the first model-router option that keeps routing inside an EU data zone; there is still no Switzerland region in the list.

Session affinity for Chat Completions in model router

Chat Completions applications can supply an opaque session ID to ask model router to attempt the same eligible model across related conversation turns. Existing eligibility and fallback behavior is preserved, and the response reports whether a request initialized, retained or switched the model association.

Why it matters: Multi-turn conversations stop silently changing model mid-thread, which is what made routed deployments hard to evaluate.

Per-request routing metadata in model router

Clients that opt in to the preview response contract get observability metadata on each Chat Completions response: routing mode, routing-trace latency, ordered model attempts, HTTP status and returned errors. Multiple attempts reveal when automatic fallback occurred.

Why it matters: Cost and latency anomalies in a routed deployment become attributable per request instead of only visible in aggregate.

Business Central report inbox APIs open up to Power Automate and MCP

New APIs on the Business Central report inbox let report outputs be automated with Power Automate or MCP. GA Oct 2026 (roadmap 573318).

Dataverse fields map into Business Central without a table extension

New or existing custom Dataverse fields can be mapped directly from the Integration Table Mappings page: refresh the Dataverse field list, add the field to an existing mapping, pick the Business Central field, set the sync direction and enable it. Previously this required creating or updating a table extension in the integration layer. GA Oct 2026 (roadmap 573365).

Why it matters: Dataverse schema changes stop requiring an AL deployment, which shortens the change cycle on BC and Dynamics 365 Sales integrations.

EWS deprecation in Exchange Online hits hybrid rich coexistence and cross-org sharing

Exchange Online EWS changes start landing between October 2026 and April 2027. Two scenarios hit on-premises customers: hybrid organizations with mailboxes both on-premises and online must move rich coexistence lookups such as free/busy and MailTips to Graph, which requires at least the May 2026 update for Exchange SE because only Exchange SE can use Graph for this; and two Exchange Online organizations sharing free/busy through org relationships move to Cross-Tenant Access Policy. Two Exchange on-premises organizations using org relationships with each other need no change at this time. On-premises mailboxes with archive mailboxes in Exchange Online are not fully supported yet, with support expected in following months.

Why it matters: Hybrid customers have a hard April 2027 deadline and a server-update prerequisite, and the unsupported on-premises-plus-cloud-archive case needs flagging in migration plans now.
