Engage Copilot v1 retires from Viva Engage
Copilot v1 (Writing Assistant) in Viva Engage is deprecated beginning 24 September 2026, retiring the standalone writing assistance experience and consolidating writing help into Microsoft 365 Copilot in Engage. Copilot v1 is on by default for users holding a premium Viva Engage licence (Microsoft Viva Suite or Viva Employee Communications and Communities), while the replacement requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence; Viva Engage processes Copilot v1 interactions against services aligned to the tenant's US or EU data centre regional election and does not store them.
Why it matters: users covered only by a Viva licence lose writing assistance rather than migrating to it, so the licence gap is worth checking before the 24 September date.
