Microsoft Defender protection for AI agents

With a Microsoft Agent 365 license, Microsoft Defender now provides discovery, security posture, threat detection and investigation, and real-time protection for the AI agents in a tenant, including real-time protection for Copilot Studio agents via the connector. In public preview, AI agent runtime protection with Defender for Endpoint adds agent-native event inspection for Codex CLI and the GitHub Copilot app, plus network inspection for Node.js-based agents that expose no vendor event interface.

Why it matters: Partners deploying Agent 365 can now offer customers tenant-wide detection and runtime protection covering both first-party and locally run AI agents.

The CU 1.0 GA API (2025-11-01) gains broader GPT-5.5 and lower GPT-5 series model support, improved grounding efficiency (about 28% fewer tokens), and a refreshed confidence model. A new CU 2.0 preview (2026-06-01-preview) adds synchronous Read and Layout APIs, semantic chunking, agentic document reasoning, and new building blocks for AI apps and agents on the same GPT-5 series foundation.
